Easy Like Sunday Brunch: Tune Hotel Brunch Review

Tune Hotel

Hi there beautiful! πŸ˜€ Are you constantly looking for affordable, yet ambient places to dine? Well, Tune Hotel marries these two concepts with a flawless ease, as I recently discovered during brunch. πŸ™‚

You don’t need a silver fork to eat good food~ Paul Prudhomme

Tune Hotel has been on my #bucket-list since I did my post on Budget Travel, as it is the epitome of a budget hotel. More so, I have always wanted to have a true ‘brunch’ experience… So, when they invited us over for brunch, the invite was met with a welcome smile on my part. πŸ™‚

Literally Speaking πŸ™‚

Fun Fact>> Brunch, refers to a meal that is taken late in the morning instead of breakfast or lunch. πŸ˜€

Conveniently located on Rhapta road, in Westlands, Tune Hotel is one of the newest hotels in Nairobi. With it’s unique shape and height, the hotel towers gloriously over adjacent buildings, making it hard to miss.

A Double, Tune Hotel Brunch Experience

I happen to have had two separate brunch experiences at Tune Hotel (call it a blessing in disguise?), so this post will somehow attempt to mirror both experiences… Hopefully they will give insight into what brunch at Tune Hotel entails.

On my first brunch visit, I got to dine alone. This solo visit was intimate, allowing me to pay more attention to my surroundings and savor the meals that they served up. & smile cheekily at strangers πŸ™‚ During the second encounter my friend Eric accompanied me, giving the experience an authentic brunch feel. After-all, with brunch, the more the merrier! πŸ˜€

Brunch is served at their Utamu restaurant, which is on the ground floor. The hotel also features a rooftop sky bar and lounge, that offer scenic views of Nairobi, and its sunsets.

I was met by Miriam the restaurant manager who was both resourceful and pleasant, as she explained their brunch in detail.

Β Cool, Calm and Comfortable Ambiance

As you walk into Utamu restaurant, you instantly notice the calm atmosphere offered by the lights and tasteful decor.

They also have an outdoor restaurant, if you wish to get a nice whiff of fresh air while you brunch. πŸ™‚

The hotel maintains a quiet and relaxed climate through the day. Although I don’t particularly fancy dining out by myself, I had a lovely time thanks to Utamu. πŸ™‚

A Sumptuous 3-Course Brunch!

Tune Hotel’s brunch consists of a 3-course meal, on a rotational menu-basis that changes every 10 days. Their menu entails continental dishes, with a hint of Italian cuisine.

Fun Facts>>

  • On Sundays, brunch runs from 12pm to 7:30 pm and at at 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Weekdays
  • They serve bottomless cocktails during weekdays’ brunch.
  • You can enjoy a 3-course Brunch meal at Kes. 1,400 only and 2-course meal at Kes.1,200 only

Of Adventurous Starters

They offer a choice of soup or salad for the Starter. During my first visit, I was feeling like quite the adventurous person… Abandoning my comfort zone, I ordered the Cream of Tomato soup.

To the ordinary person, I realize that soup is hardly ‘the adventure’. πŸ˜€ But since I barely ever have soup, this was a good gamble on my part, because it was simply delicious! Their generous serving is also quite filling.

During the second visit, we ordered the Arugula salad with lime and olive oil dressing. This decision may partly have been inspired by curiosity about its foreign-sounding name… πŸ˜€

This is where Eric played the ‘starring role’. (read, the tasting of greens) πŸ˜€ We particularly enjoyed how the seemingly saltiness of the olive oil & lime complimented the sweetness of the apples. In his words, “the greens leave a refreshingly raw taste on the tongue… I would certainly never have imagined apples served this way before.” πŸ˜€ πŸ™‚

Savory ‘Main Course’ Coupled With Great Service!

I played it a little safe with the main course, choosing to go with Beef.Β  After all, you can never go wrong with beef, right? πŸ˜€ With their rotational menu you can expect such options as pasta, house-burgers, chicken and fish.

The first time, I chose the Beef Steak with grilled onions, served with creamed spinach, mashed potatoes and gravy. Suffice it to say that the spinach stole the show on this one! #Yum!

On my second visit, I switched it up a little with the ‘Braised Beef in pepper sauce, served with seasonal veggies and creamy mashed potatoes.

The beef was tender and well-flavored. Its strong flavor gave it a perfect blend with the mashed potatoes. The veggies were well-sautΓ©ed, which is hard to find as most places serve bland greens.

While the meals were truly toothsome and tasty, their service is the icing on the cake. Our waiter Kevin was warm and pleasant all through our visit. I also had a chance to meet the Chef on my first visit which, as I always say, crowns the experience. πŸ™‚

Choice Dessert Options

When it comes to dessert, I always order ice cream. Blame it on my deep-standing love for ice cream. πŸ™‚ So, for once, with eyes tightly closed and fingers crossed I went for the Banana fritters, though I had no clue what this was.

Tune Hotel

I was surprised when my first bite revealed a soft mixture of mashed bananas fried over a coating of batter. Honestly speaking, it felt like a strange way to eat bananas… But if you enjoy sweet desserts, this would certainly be a good option. πŸ˜€

By this time I was feeling well-fed, a little drowsy and oozing with gratitude. πŸ™‚

Part of the secret success in life is to eat what you like~Mark Twain.

I love the fact that you can dine by your lonesome at Tune Hotel and not feel out of place… I also enjoyed dining with my friend, which was an experience in itself. πŸ™‚

The place is perfect for meetups with friends and families, or even semi-formal meetings with colleagues. Moreover, it makes an ideal venue for dates. Brunch is certainly better enjoyed with friends, as you can space time between the meals with conversation and laughter. πŸ˜€

Safe to say, my first brunch experience(s) was a success, thanks to Tune Hotel! πŸ™‚ Many thanks to Tune for a lovely, first double-Brunch experience. πŸ™‚

Hi Marion. Thanks for the review. I was hoping to enjoy an experience similar to yours tomorrow (lazy sunday) so i called them to confirm their brunch offer. They no longer have this. They have an a la carte 3 course meal for 2100. This comes with bottomless cocktails between 12 to 4 pm
