To travel, to experience and learn: that is to live ~ Tenzing Norgay
Hello beautiful people! 😀 Each time I think of Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, the word ‘experience’ comes to mind… It is not ‘just a hotel’, but an experience waiting to be had at every turn! 🙂
About a month or so ago, I got to be part of the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club Blogger’s Experience. For 2 days we got to stay at, and sample various aspects of the hotel.
Being that Nanyuki is one of my favorite parts of Kenya, I was thrilled to partake this adventure.
I can still remember the enthusiasm as we departed from the Fairmont Norfolk, in Nairobi.
Our Bloggers and Influencers’ team comprised some of the most upbeat people you will ever come across: Neomi Nganga (Team Curvy Kenya), Marion Vionna (Curly Cheeks), Wanjira Longauer (Sports Central/Capital Fm), and Eric Vateta (Kenyan Story).
It did not take long to feel like I was among friends with these amazing souls. 🙂
Exploring Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club
Although our arrival at Fairmont Mount Kenya was quite late, I could still tell that something special lay ahead…
After checking in, we walked right into dinner. I was starving, so I ordered soup for my starter, a rarity for me… And I must say, it was probably the best decision I made on the entire trip! 😀 That soup was divine. 🙂
We retired soon after dinner, because we were wiped out, plus we had an early start the day after.
The next morning, as we walked out of our rooms, the beauty of Fairmont struck me like lightning on a hot summer day!
Well-situated in Nanyuki, the hotel sits on a 100acre farm, offering some of the best views of Mount Kenya. The entire property is utterly gorgeous!
Neomi and I were treated to a dance by a confident peacock, showing off its beautiful feathers..
I wanted to freeze that moment, bathed in the sweet, fresh, country air… Unfortunately, there was no time to stop; our Slopes’ breakfast awaited us! 🙂
Champagne Breakfast On The Slopes Of Mount Kenya
Initially, I had no idea what to expect… Even so, the idea of breakfast on the slopes of Mount Kenya sounded intriguing!
We drove through a forest to the slopes, where we discovered a lovely breakfast display, waiting for us. And with a clear view of Mount Kenya, everything felt perfect.
Our chef and servers for the morning were both graceful and kind… As we were taken through what felt like a 4-course breakfast, my mind felt at ease & relaxed… There were plenty of jokes going round the table, the mood happy and lively. 🙂

The sun came up in all its glory, giving us a good dose of Vitamin D. Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club General Manager, Nils Axing, gave us a nice surprise, when he came over to say hello. 😀

The Champagne breakfast on the Slopes is undoubtedly a must try! If you love dining under the open sky and being out in nature, you would love this! 🙂
Game Drive & Visit to the Animal Orphanage
Soon after breakfast, we went off on a Game Drive, in the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy and later on, an Animal Orphanage tour.
Most people tend to associate Kenyan Wildlife with the Masai Mara. But as it turns out, our country is very well-endowed! You can experience scenic views of Mount Kenya, a relatively cool climate and Wildlife all at once! Sounds like a plan, yes? 😀
The Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy is unique particularly for their Bongo rehabilitation efforts. The Bongo is an endangered antelope species in Kenya.
Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy provides a protective environment to breed and rehabilitate the Bongo, in preparation for release into the wild. These efforts have seen their numbers growing, over the years.

Eric Vateta captured this shot from within the cage with this guy, speak of being a dare devil!

Canon Moments With Geoffrey
My highlight of the Animal Orphanage tour, was seeing the llama! I have only seen it on TV before, plus it is not found anywhere else in Africa. I loved how calm the llama was, letting us get up close, without a fuss. 🙂

A Quick Game of Golf
One of the most memorable moments was watching Neomi Nganga learn how to golf. 😀 Her exuberant personality draws people to her, and you will find yourself almost always laughing! 😀
That was the kind of mood on the golf course as she became acquainted with the golf club. She talked to the golf ball, made it listen to her, and when she hit the ball, best believe it was a happy affair. 😀

The golf course adds to the charm of Fairmont Mount Kenya, with its endless stretch of manicured lawns and gardens….
I like that you can learn the essential rules of golf, and don’t have to be a pro to try… It sure beats sitting in a hotel room all day, right? You can make new friends while at it, or have a bonding session with your family. 🙂
A Fun Fishing Attempt!
I have always wanted to try fishing, although I think I am too impatient for it. Neomi and I got the brilliant idea to go fishing one evening.
By the time we got to the pond, I had managed to tangle my fishing line, making quite a mess of it! Needless to say we did not do much fishing, but we sure tried! Instead, we ended up feeding the fish…and the little guys seemed pretty happy about it! 😀
Moreover, it made for a nice sun-downer activity after a full day of being up & about.
Family Fun-Something For Everyone!
They have a children’s playground, that is well- fenced in. This is perfect for parents who want some quiet time.
You can leave your kids there having fun, and spend a day swimming , playing darts, walking through the Maze for adventure or just simply relaxing in the outdoors.
Horse Riding
The truth is, girls just want to have fun… and have fun we did!
‘Who is the bride?’ That’s the question our fellow guests could not resist asking, as we took a stroll with the horses. This gave us quite a good laugh. 😀
And since my dress could not let me mount a horse, we had bonding sessions instead. 🙂
Fairmont Mt. Kenya has a beautiful terrain for horse-riding, and I would have loved to go for a ride through the forest… It is yet another delightful way to experience the hotel. This would make for a good couples’ or family bonding activity.
Surprise Goodbye Dinner!
Just as our trip had started in style with a Champagne breakfast on the slopes, so it also ended in style…
On our last night, we were treated to a wonderful dinner, in the garden.
Their Executive Chef, Chef Picco held nothing back on this one… Although it was insanely cold out, that did not stop us from enjoying the exquisite dinner they’d graciously prepared… 🙂
I can’t help but mention that each dining experience felt noteworthy. Our very last meal was the Sunday Brunch, that had everything from Pasta, to pancakes & nyama choma.
By the end of our trip, I was certain I had gained some weight! But it was well-worth it. 🙂
