Not to worry, I’ve got your back! Catch up with A Home Away From Home: Serena Mountain LodgeHERE.

Okay, now that we are all on the same page, let’s swing right into the thick of #AdventureThrills!

5 Ways To Experience #AdventureThrills at Serena Mountain Lodge!

Candle-lit Rooftop Dinner

After our active walk through the Forest, the kind folks at Serena Mountain Lodge had planned a relaxing evening for us…

It was a lovely night, surrounded by the quietness of nature, with the occasional sound of birds cheekily calling to one another.

As we walked up the stairs to the rooftop, the gleeful aroma of food tantalized my entire being…

The setup felt intimate and cozy, with lamps and candles lighting up the pure darkness.

The Chef was busy on the grill, roasting up a sizzling goodness of Pork and chicken that would, later on, literally send my taste buds to the moon and back!

Amos, the Manager, and Benson our guide, joined us for dinner, making the night come alive with stories of their adventurous undertakings on the job!

I took each bite slowly, deliberately letting the food flavors melt in my mouth… 🙂

Since the temperatures had dipped significantly, they gave each one of us a layered Maasai blanket to keep warm.

We stayed there chatting the hours away… And from the simple joy written on my companions’ faces, it was obvious that the magic of Serena had bitten all of us… 🙂

>>This experience is perfect for couples, but also for families and friends looking to unwind, while bonding over good food and great company…

Find Your Zen At the Maisha Spa

The next day started out bright and early, with the lot of us going our separate ways… Janet and the guys went on a Hike to Kihari Hill, while I stayed behind.

I was keen on getting to meet and know the people who make Serena Mountain Lodge tick.

Enter Triza, the charming beautician at their Maisha Spa. She ushered me into the Spa with the brightest of smiles… 🙂

The Spa’s décor, with its sky blue colors, and wide open windows overlooking the forest make you Zen out almost instantly…

When I mentioned my recurring back problem, she suggested a relaxing massage, with their top of the line essential oils…

I floated into a blissful state of nirvana, as she masterfully worked the knots in my back muscles. I could easily have slept off the rest of my day away in that room!

Triza’s joyous spirit was infectious! You can tell that she really loves what she does… And by the time I left, it felt like I was glowing from the inside out. 🙂

>>Spoiling yourself at the spa is a wonderful way to let go of your to-do-lists and melt into the joys of being away…

Stretch It Out: Kihari Hill Hike

Kihari Hill Hike is a must for #AdventureThrills lovers! It takes about 2-3 hours and you’ll spot Colobus Monkeys, Elephants, Water-bucks and birds like the Martial Eagles…

Fun Fact: The hill covers an area of 213, 381m2 and it takes you to a high altitude of about 2,281m above Sea Level.

It’s perfect if you want to experience remarkable mountain views and wildlife, plus sneak in a workout while on your getaway.

Serena Mountain Lodge also organizes the Moorland Hike, a full day excursion up to the moorlands of Mount Kenya. This hike requires more from the body, as you go up to an altitude of 3,800m above sea level.

I reckon the Kihari Hill Hike is a good trade-off if you prefer a somewhat, short but sweet hiking experience.

P.S. Though I didn’t partake the Kihari Hill Hike, my travel companions, Njooro, Janet and Mugendi had a fantastic time of it! 🙂

Where Food Meets Adventure: Bush Breakfast!

Honestly speaking, the Bush breakfast stands to be one of my best memories of Serena Mountain Lodge!

The weather was perfect as we left the Lodge, with Benson driving us through a densely forested road for about 10-15 minutes…

We then proceeded to walk another 5 minutes to where our bush breakfast awaited us…

Chef Mathenge and his team had gone all out, with a delightful array of breakfast dishes and a live cooking station right there in the forest!

I’d met Chef Mathenge, their Head Chef, the day before when he’d hosted me in his ‘Kitchen Kingdom’ at the Lodge. There, he’d shared some of his best cooking tips and even taught me how to make a quick stir fry.

Interestingly, the bush breakfast usually starts with wine or champagne…

And I was especially blown away by their thoughtfulness of including a non-alcoholic wine in the menu for me. Now that’s ‘next-level customer service!’ 😀

There’s something special about dining in the great outdoors, with tall trees hanging above you, and the sun rays trickling in through the branches…

You breathe in the fresh air as you sip on your Sweet Peppermint tea… So refreshing! 🙂

Try Your Luck at Trout Fishing

Right after breakfast, we proceeded to the Kiganjo Trout Hatchery. The hatchery was started by the Colonial British in the 1930’s, but is now run by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.

Fun Fact: Trout Fish is not native to Africa. It was introduced to River Gura, in the Aberdares by Col. Ewart Scott Grogan, a British settler and explorer.

Tip>> Read my post about The Enchanted Grogan’s Castle HERE

They gave us an educational tour, with demonstrations of how they go about harvesting the eggs from female Trout, fertilizing, feeding and all the way to a Table-size Trout…

>>This is a unique opportunity to learn more about Trout Farming, and to appreciate the delicate work that goes into it.

A little later, armed with our fishing rods and gumboots, we set out to the river to try our hand at Trout fishing…

Once again, I felt the gentle tug of nature as the sound of the clear, sparkling water navigated its way through smoothed rocks flowing downstream…

Though we didn’t catch any Trout that day, I felt content. Being there, seated on a rock with cool clear water rushing past my boots, was enough…

It felt like time had stopped, and we were in a different world.

>>This experience teaches you patience and makes for a good way to reflect and rejuvenate in nature.

>>The activities at Serena Mountain Lodge come at an extra cost, ranging between Kes. 800 to Kes. 2,500

>>I would recommend visiting this magical place with the ones you hold dear. 🙂

My sincere thanks to Serena Mountain Lodge for taking us on a memorable adventure and for the exceptional hospitality!
