Hello! 😀 Are you constantly yearning to leave the city for a quick day trip out of Nairobi? Sometimes all you’ve got is a day to unwind, and staying home doesn’t always cut it, right?
Well read on, because I’ve got your back with these fun, affordable ideas for a day trip out of Nairobi! 😉
5 Ideas For A Fun Day Trip Out Of Nairobi
Sun-Chasing In Kinangop
My all-time favourite place to unwind, for a day trip out of Nairobi, is Kinangop! Remember our first-ever post> Charity Begins With Sun-Chasing In Kinangop? 😀
There is something calming and utterly relaxing about venturing to the unspoiled lands, and farms of Kinangop. The air is crisp and clean, the atmosphere laid-back and the people ever friendly.
Anytime my family drives down for a day trip, it feels like my whole world simply resets itself.
Kinangop is about 1 hour, 45 minutes from Nairobi, off the Nairobi- Naivasha Highway.
The beauty is that- you need not have a specific destination in mind… You can drive farther on, through the winding roads up to the Aberdares… And when you’ve found your happy place, you will know. 🙂
So pack a picnic basket, download your favourite playlist and hit the road! 😉
Travel Tips:
- Read my posts on Kinangop and Aberdares for more details. 🙂
- Ask around for Sasumua Dam, for the most glorious views!
Golfing in Naivasha
Thanks to my friends, I recently discovered this sweet spot that is Baron Park Golf Centre in Naivasha, next to the Delamere stop.
Before you dismiss it, let me just say- this is not your traditional Golf Club where deep pockets and deeper connections are necessary to get in. Nope. 😀
In fact, you don’t even need to know anything about golf! So if you are a beginner like me, you’ll fit right in!
With its practice range and 9-hole course, it’s a great place for families and friends to hang out over food and hitting golf balls…
>>The meals at their restaurant are pocket-friendly ranging between Kes. 200 to Kes. 1,500. Golfing costs between Kes. 100 and Kes. 1,500.
Sail To Crescent Island…
Imagine a place devoid of human settlement, where the wild animals roam freely and the grass is as green and as pure as it gets… Now imagine, getting on a small boat and sailing across a lake to this beautiful island, all to yourselves… 🙂
But, why imagine when you can live it? Located on the Eastern side of Lake Naivasha, a 2 hours’ drive, Crescent Island is the perfect escape on a day trip out of Nairobi!
Taking a tranquil trek on the island, surrounded by wildlife is a rare, albeit surreal experience… And you definitely want to give it a good try! 🙂
Travel Tips:
- Negotiate the boat ride cost in advance, as the costs vary among the boat/tour operators
- Park entrance fees to Crescent Island cost 30 USD and 15 USD for Non Residents, and Kes. 800 and Kes. 400 for Citizens, adults and children respectively.
- Carry packed lunch, or order freshly caught fish and ugali, before heading to the island.
- Read my posts on ‘Exploring Lake Naivasha‘ for more details.
Let loose at Masai Eco Lodge
Honestly it’s been a while since my last visit to Masai Eco Lodge, but it remains as one of my best road trip memories! 😀
Situated in Kajiado County, Masai Eco Lodge is 1hour, 45 minutes away from Nairobi, off the Nairobi- Namanga highway.
Masai Eco Lodge is a good idea if you’re looking to let loose and de-stress with your friends!
You’ll enjoy running through the obstacle courses and competing on quad bikes, to get your adrenaline going!
Travel Tips:
- The food takes some time to prepare, so make your order before going out to play.
- The activities range between Kes. 250 and Kes. 500.
- Read my post on Masai Eco Lodge for more details. 🙂
Pump Up Your Adrenaline at Havila Resort in Kirinyaga!
Havila Resort is fresh on my bucket-list, thanks to my friend Wanjiru Njenga, who did a lovely blog post on it!
It is, apparently, a wondrous escape into soothing nature, epic waterfalls and blissful adventure…
And if you are an adrenaline junkie, I bet you’ll add it to your bucket-list too, because Havila Resort will soon have the 2nd longest Zip Line in Kenya… Fun, or fuunnn?! 😀
Since I haven’t been there as yet, I challenge you to get there before me, and try out Kayaking or Water rafting… deal?
Respond below & let me know if #ChallengeAccepted 😉
