Hello my friends! 😀 How is September coming along for you? In today’s Taking Stock post, we are taking time to look into what we need to rebuild and finish our 2022 well… Are you game?
But first, can we take a moment to appreciate and give thanks? On our last Taking Stock post, we committed to choosing ourselves, and to choosing peace, during what promised to be a tough election period.
Looking back, I am grateful to God for allowing us to get through the elections peacefully.
Moreover, I feel thankful for us as Kenyans. We’ve come a long way! Kudos to us for how well we handled the 2022 elections.
Going forward, I hope we can commit to treating each other with respect, regardless of anyone’s political affiliations. When the country thrives in peace, we all thrive.
A Time to Rebuild…
With the year quickly coming to a close, soon enough it will be December… And then we’ll be taking stock of our 2022 goals. How do you feel about the year coming to an end?
I titled this portion ‘a time to rebuild’ because I think it’s an ideal time to take stock of where you are now, vs. where you need to go.

Let me be really honest here… Even as I write this part of the post, I can admit: I don’t have all the answers. That is the nature of the human condition though, isn’t it? We are all figuring this thing called life as we go. And that is okay.
However, may I suggest these three things…
Write down your anxious thoughts
Take time to write down all the things that are making you anxious about life… Write down the details of why each item makes you anxious.
In so doing, you might find that the situations probably feel ‘bigger in your mind’ than they are, in reality.
This allows you to take on the role of the observer in your own life, hence taking back some of the power. The exercise can also enable you to identify what is truly important to you.

On my part, I take it 1 step further by writing them down in prayer form. It’s sort of like spilling my guts about my anxious thoughts to God. Whenever I do this, I leave that space feeling less anxious and more grounded.
Find what works best for you, and make a regular habit of it. When you return to your notes later on, you’ll be surprised at how much you’ve overcome.
Start Small: Create an action plan.
Once you figure out what is important to you for the rest of this year, break it down into actionable items. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed because life all feels like this big insurmountable mountain we can’t tackle.
By breaking it down into bite-sized action steps, your mind is better able to process what is required to win. You may even find some solutions within, and perhaps figure out what help you need from others.

Focus on what you want
I love this quote by Tony Robbins: Where Your Attention Goes, Energy Flows.
Being human, the temptation is to focus on everything that is not working out. Unfortunately, that makes us feel even more stuck.
How about trying something different? Focus instead, on the things you do want to accomplish. Focus on what you can do, vs. what is out of your control.
Furthermore, make a habit of tracking your wins, no matter how small. Lisa Nichols calls this: stacking up your micro-wins. Eventually the small wins, will add up to the bigger wins.

November 11, 2022 at 11:26 amRebuilding requires one to be true to themselves and be real with everything. Looking at what worked and what needs to be worked on.
I thought my content would make it on the “Listening” but is okay. We move swiftly.

September 17, 2022 at 6:26 pmI absolutely love the taking stock blog posts.. always gives me a chance to pause 🙂
Thanks for creating a space that we can do this ever so often through your platform (insert raised hands emoji here).
I have found that daily/consistency in pursuing our goals/dreams, no matter how small the step is.. contributes immensely towards actually achieving them.
In pausing/taking stock, it gives one a chance to regroup and see where adjustments can be made (if at all needed) or how to keep building on what has been done to keep getting better, one day at a time.
Taking stock… 🙂
