Happy New Month my friends! 😀 The year 2023 is all about convenience and getting things done from wherever you are… These 4 Safaricom Tools will make your remote work and travels much easier… Enjoy the read!
Before we dive in, let’s start with some candid thoughts, shall we? 🙂
I’ve honestly been trying to write this blog post for a week now, but for some reason the words just wouldn’t come! Thankfully, last night at about 11:14pm (and in bed) the words finally found me.
Such is the life of a Writer. On some days the words are inescapable. While on other days, you sit there staring at a blank screen for hours on end. But hey, we make it work! 🙂
As a Content Creator, life’s all about being able to get work done on the go- whenever wherever (whether it be in a taxi, a cafe or even bed)!
And after 2020, we can all agree that Remote working is the way of the future… Who can turn down an opportunity to work from home or the beach? Not I, surely. Not I. Would you? 😀

4 Safaricom Tools To Make Your Remote Work & Living Easier!
For the past month, I’ve had the pleasure of partnering with Safaricom PLC. I must say, I am impressed by how they consistently innovate to bring us convenience, in this fast-evolving digital era.
Hence, let’s explore ways to make Remote working our reality, with these 4 Safaricom Tools….
Safaricom Internet: It’s the Consistency for me!
Top on the list of the things you need for remote work and living, is a good internet connection.
Someone once said, “you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.” And each time I leave our national borders, I realise that we have it really good back home!
In Ethiopia for instance, the internet penetration is only at 15%. We not only have wider internet access, but it’s also way more affordable in Kenya!
The other day, I was chatting with my friend Eric who is a Freelancer like me. He pointed out that our internet speed & consistency is the same across Safaricom Home Fibre and mobile data.
I suppose it’s one of those things I got so used to, that I’d started taking for granted!

Before we got Safaricom Home Fibre installed, I was using that ‘internet-provider-who-shall-not-be-named.’ I can’t even begin to tell you the levels of frustrations I went through back then…
Instead of getting work done, much of my time was spent trying to get through to customer service. Those were some dark days I tell you! 😀
Today though, I am assured of these three things: fast speeds, reliable customer service and consistency. Furthermore, my all-inclusive monthly bundles come in handy especially when I am traveling. I can still create content and stay connected. It’s a win-win!
So, if you are thinking of setting up a work-from-home situation, let this be your sign to invest in a consistent home internet provider. 😉

MPESA GLOBAL APP: It’s the Universality for me!
MPESA Global App is a service that enables customers to send and receive money globally. And when you are working remotely, getting timely payments is a big part of the game.
They even have a Western Union and Paypal function on the App. Hence, you’ll be able to receive/send money to banks in over 500,000 locations worldwide, via Western Union.
Gone are the days when you had to wait at least 3 days for money to reflect. You can now receive the money directly to your MPESA, compared to before when you had to withdraw actual cash at an outlet.
And if you are looking to get paid or shop online, you can take advantage of the Paypal to MPESA function. This certainly makes it easier to work with international clients, if that’s your preference.
MPESA Global can also be particularly useful when you are traveling and need to access money fast. Once upon time in Zambia, I almost got stuck after I’d forgotten my bank ATM pin and needed cash. Let’s just say that I was lucky to be traveling with friends at the time.
This MPESA Global option could have been a lifesaver at the time. Thankfully, now you don’t have to get stuck like me, while traveling. 🙂

P.S. You can read more on how to get MPESA Global HERE.
myCounty App: It’s the Connectedness for me!
How many hours do you spend queuing at County Government offices trying to pay utility bills, get business permits and the like?
Whether working remotely or not, this is one of those things that no one really looks forward to… And we can all agree that as a remote worker, your time really is your money.
Safaricom recently launched the first myCounty App in partnership with Makueni County. Through the App, users will be able to gain access to county government services right from their mobile phones. The app service will be rolled to all the 47 counties in the near future.

myCounty will be accessible through a USSD short code on Android and iPhone App for all counties. Through a mini-app on the M-PESA Super App, it will offer access to county services and payments including parking fees, single business permit fees, market cess, land rates, property rates etc.
Thanks to this Safaricom Tool, you can now skip countless hours spent in queues and prioritise getting your work done from wherever you like. 🙂

Safaricom Meets ShowMax: It’s the Entertainment for me!
You may have 299 problems, but entertainment shouldn’t be one of them! 😀 It helps to have a way to decompress when working remotely…
When I was growing up, my family owned a black and white Greatwall TV. That TV was the primary source of entertainment for our family. 😀
At that time, we lived in a part of town that did not enjoy electricity. Hence, our entertainment heavily depended on the weather too… In months like July, our dear old solar-powered TV would often start this slow, but painful journey to its death when the battery ran out of ‘juice.’ The screen would slowly thin out into a black screen, but before then the characters would get distorted and start dancing around like puppets without a bone in their body.
Never mind that the aerial itself needed some TLC to get the channels to work. This was all part of the fun that was growing up for us, really. 🙂

Today however, we live in an entirely different world. You can keep up with your favourite shows, right on your mobile phone while on the go.
I love that Safaricom has partnered with ShowMax to bring you maximum entertainment on your mobile phone, at only Kshs.299 per month. Moreover, the deal comes with 1GB of free data.
This can be a real game changer, especially when you are traveling for work.

With more time on your hands, you have more options like exploring out beautiful world. 🙂

This information is very helpful, that county app is a definite game changer!
Haha! I remember the days of ‘that un-named internet service provider’ tough times and ever so grateful for reliable internet service providers and stable connections. It honestly makes all the difference in this fast paced ever changing world of technology.
For now I will look into the M-pesa Global App as we wait with baited breath for the myCounty App to expand across the country.
Thanks for sharing this and looking forward to see this and other partnership grow and expand.
