Eco Farmhouse Murang’a: The Best of Countryside Living!

Hello there my friends! Are you looking for the perfect escape this holiday season? Look no further because a stay at Eco Farmhouse is exactly what the doctor ordered! :)

There are places whose stories deserve to be told… no matter how long it takes. These are the places that you will see in pictures and without warning, your mind runs away taking you on a fantastical journey… You can’t help day-dreaming about what it would feel like to visit and be there…

I first discovered Eco Farmhouse on Instagram… And it was easily love at first sight!

I remember dreaming about how much I would love to do yoga on their open deck. So, I made a mental-heart note that it would happen for me… I didn’t know when or how, but I chose to trust that it would happen. 

Time passed by, as it usually does. And I may even have forgotten about it… Thankfully, God didn’t forget. :)

Then one day, an email mysteriously appeared in my inbox… It was an invite to visit and stay at Eco Farmhouse. I could hardly believe it! I remember thinking: whoa, there’s no way!

But there was a way- and it was happening! :)

I instantly went back to their Instagram, to peruse their pictures again… And as reality hit home, my heart may have done somersaults in excitement!

After a couple of email exchanges, we agreed on a date for my visit… I then reached out to my friend and fellow Travel Content Creator, Diana Justus, who was available to come along. We also got to travel with Peter Braxton, an epic Photographer and Videographer, making it just perfect trio for the trip! :)

The Trip to Eco Farmhouse… Getting there in Style!

The journey from Nairobi to Eco Farmhouse, takes about 1hr 30 minutes, on a good day. And thanks to our friends at Kilian Travels, we got to travel to Murang’a in great style and comfort! 

They were kind enough to provide a tour van, with plush comfy seats and a kind driver, to ferry us to Eco Farmhouse. Before we knew it, the 1.5 hours on the road had quickly lapsed away!

Eco Farmhouse… The home of Pure Bliss!

Eco Farmhouse is situated on an expansive 500-acre fruit farm in Murang’a. On our arrival, we were received warmly by the staff, including their housekeeper and Chef. 

We were then led up a wooden staircase to the treehouse, where I must say- it felt like I was living out one of my childhood dreams! :)

Cushioned amongst high mango trees, Eco Farm’s Tree house is your perfect model of outside country living, with a dash of exquisite luxury! Made entirely out of wood, the house offers such a relaxing ‘cabin in the woods’ feel. 

When we got to the top, the views that accosted my eyes softly took my breath away… I promptly walked to the edge of the deck wanting a moment to simply breath in the calming sea of green trees spreading out before us, as far as the eye could see.

We’d arrived at just the right time, during golden hour. The sun’s rays warmly lit up the house in bright, glowing hues of orange and yellow. It all felt so magical!

The front side of the deck offers an open-air-plan living room furnished with cozy lounge chairs and cushions, while there’s a dining area and kitchen at the back end of it.

When it came to it, reality was even better than the pictures had promised! Right there and then, I’d fallen in love with Eco Farmhouse- yet again!

Country-side living never felt better… 

The treehouse has two spacious and tastefully furnished en-suite rooms with huge windows that open up to the trees all around. Eco Farmhouse is like the gift that keeps giving… 

As the darkness of night firmly settled in, the stars came out to play… Dining beneath the stars is what dreamy films are made of. And that night, it felt like we were starring in one. :)

Our dinner was delightful, with plenty of food to go around! Suffice to say, our Chef outdid himself!

We spent the rest of our first night chatting and simply taking in our surroundings… I quietly made up my mind that Eco Farm is the kind of place that allows you to relax ever so effortlessly.  

Dolce Far Niente… The sweetness of doing nothing

The Italians got it right when they coined the phrase: ‘Dolce far niente’ – the sweetness of doing nothing. And that was our plan for our time at Eco Farmhouse, to do nothing except be present and enjoy our time there.

As the next day dawned, the sweet sound of birds filled the air around us. I woke up hoping to catch the sunrise… But the sun had other plans that day!

Still, I relished those quiet moments outside, breathing in the crisp clean country air. I could have stayed in that beautiful moment forever. :)

When Diana woke up, we decided to start our day with gentle yoga on the deck. Moving to the soundscape of nature with picturesque views and the open air was refreshing…

Yoga on that deck turned out to be everything I’d hoped for and more!

Later on, the three of us sat down to a plentiful breakfast spread on the deck. Each meal at Eco Farmhouse was sumptuous & tasted like it had been prepared with love!

The rest of our day was spent doing what we love… telling stories through our lenses, playing scrabble, eating to our hearts’ content and enjoying our home for the weekend!

Things To Do At Eco Farmhouse

Eco Farmhouse is perfect for a getaway for couples or with your group of friends.

Besides the Tree House, they have 3 other houses on their property: the Ostrich House, Lichi House and Lime House that all offer different charming farm-life experiences. These may be better-suited for family holidays with children.

We ventured out to the Ostrich farm one morning, and had a grand time ‘trying to feed’ the Ostriches. If you’d like to explore some more, here are the activities you can engage at Eco Farm:

• There’s a dam on the property, where you can go fishing. They provide fishing rods. However, they maintain a catch and release policy.
• Go for a relaxing guided walk around their 500 acre fruit farm and pick fruits.
• Bring your bikes and go for a ride around the farm (In case you don’t have one, you can find out in advance whether they also provide bicycles.)

P.S. The Tree House a self-catered property, but you can book their resident chef to cater your meals at an additional fee.
